Hello, my name is Janis. I am a software developer with a rollercoaster of a background. I started out in a small village in Latvia and studied computer programming, but early on, I decided to pursue my dream of becoming a music producer. At the time, I had no idea that my path would eventually lead me back to development, but the path to it gave me a very unique perspective.
Working basic jobs to earn a living, I studied hard to gain the skills required to achieve that dream. I picked up valuable skills in media, marketing, and business, which eventually allowed me to turn my hobby into a full-time job. I built a regular customer base, established contacts across media platforms, hosted events, and did videography. Eventually, I was running a full music production studio handling recording, mixing, and mastering—leading everything from radio ad production to full marketing campaigns for music videos. By this point, you might be wondering why I'm talking about music production when applying for developer positions. Here is why:
My experience uniquely positions me to understand the big picture. I know how to work hard and how to maximize outcomes. As a developer, I build systems that solve real problems. Whether it's a player enjoying a game without interruption, or a sales company optimizing its workflow to eliminate manual labour and human error on deliveries—it all comes down to the systems running in the background. I don’t believe in replacing people with software. I believe that providing the right tools unlocks efficiency, empowering teams to do more and allowing businesses to scale.
This background also took me on a journey through countless different software environments. From the Adobe suite and music production tools to 3D modelling software—and of course, playing my fair share of games—I know and understand how a program or a game should feel from a user's perspective.
My greatest strength is not a bachelor's degree in writing lines of code. It's the ability to question what's written in the books, find unique solutions to undocumented problems, and utilize every tool at my disposal to optimize and build things as efficiently as possible.
